Hijama’ or wet cupping is an ancient traditional medicine practice. It is a safe, non-operative economic way to create a therapeutic trauma involving drawing blood from various points of the body (with small incisions via a thin needle/blade) in the skin, accompanied by a controlled cutaneous inflammation to the site. The body automatically activates its natural defense mechanism called hemostasis, which stops the bleeding.

Hijama is performed using single-use disposable cups/single-use sterile surgical blades. The incisions performed on the sites are shallow, superficial, and non-invasive. These incisions are made in an aseptic condition. The negative pressure of hijama ruptures weak capillaries that have lost elasticity and deteriorated, In cases beyond repair. Capillary cells can regenerate from pre-existing blood vessels known as a process called angiogenesis. Angiogenesis occurs to heal the body, and restore blood flow to affected tissues, endothelial cells are designed to mend or create new capillaries. The re-activated endothelial cells produce enzymes and growth factors that trigger the healthy multiplication of more endothelial cells and release them into the surrounding tissue. The result is newly formed capillaries and an increase in the vascular network.
